Interestingly, the design of the Dremel has changed slightly over the years and now the tool has a digital speed controller which I actually don’t like. There only seems to be about 5 speeds instead of the variable slider on the 395.

I keep an eye out on Ebay and a second hand 395 in good condition seems to make about what I paid for mine when It was new!

I have also had a Dremel Stylus which was fantastic when it worked! but was pretty good at ruining the batteries and as they wernt user changable, it had to be sent back to Bosh each time. They seem to have lost interest in the product now and no longer support it. A great pity as I really liked the charging station and the other cordless Dremels dont have the same shape or size.

For all Dremel tools, you get the coice of using collets or the chuck. I personally quite like the collets but my father was always loosing them! The collet nut is smaller than the chuck which i found nicer for fine detail work.

I dont use the Dremel allot these days. Most of my modelling is done at the workbench where I have access to pendant motors and other drills. but for general layout work you really cant beat the Dremel.
